On our way home from our Thanksgiving visit, we made the tragic mistake of stopping in Tuscaloosa on game day. The game had just let out and the streets leading back on to the interstate were backed up for miles. We found a Panera Bread and decided to eat there and wait it out. The decor was nice and we liked the concept. It’s like a bakery and cafe rolled into one!
I decided to go with the Pick Two where you get to choose two of either a soup, half salad, or half sandwich. I went with the Thai Chopped Chicken Salad and the Sierra Turkey on Asiago Cheese Focaccia. The salad was very unique. It was spicy and the dressing was very acidic. It was topped with cashews, fire-roasted edamame, red peppers and carrots. They also drizzled a peanut sauce over the top. As interesting as it was, I would not recommend getting it. As for the sandwich, I was highly disappointed. The bread was very dry and they barely put any sauce on it. It was like trying to eat a ball of newspaper. I ate as much of my salad as I could stand and then just sat there and pouted through the rest of the meal with the “wrong choice blues”.
Jason had the Chipotle Chicken Panini. It was topped with bacon, cheddar, and an ancho chipotle spread. It was really good and smoky! Yeah, I got one bite. The fact that his was so good added to my poutiness. Look at him here, all happy that he ordered something good…
(He did offer to share it with me but I was being stubborn and pouty.) As for the overall visit, they had free WiFi which was pretty cool. The staff was not friendly at all and the dining room was extremely dirty. I would recommend going to a Panera Bread because we’ve had good experiences in the past. I just wouldn’t suggest going to this one.
