We had the pleasure of going to the Wine Social at Mignon’s this past Thursday. It was held in their lounge area and the cost $25 was per person (and i have to say it was well worth it). They had four wine reps pouring samples of wine, plenty of hors d’oeuvres, and a pianist.
The wine was hit and miss. We found a couple new favorites though. Our favorite of the night was the Tower 15 “The Swell” (74% Cab 26% Petit Verdot). It was floral with good body. I called it red candy. Our second favorite (and it was a close second) was the Gascon Malbec. It was fairly fruit forward for a malbec but still had the earthy characteristics. It was full bodied, jammy, and just all kinds of deliciousness. Talking about it now makes me REALLY want a glass. Other notable wines of the night were the Hogue Riesling (bright, sweet, and slightly tart) and the Toad Hollow Unoaked Chardonnay (crisp and clean with light fruit).
The hors d’oeuvres were fabulous. They had a great cheese display with a good variety of hard and soft cheeses, fruits, nuts, and olives. They had huge boiled shrimp with a wonderful spicy remoulade. My favorite part were the filet medallions topped with Boursin cheese. They also had bacon wrapped asparagus, little roasted duck salads, hummus, and prosciutto duxelles rolls. For sweets they had these cute little bite sized brownies and blondies.
We had a great night. I heard this was going to be a monthly thing, if so, I’ll be one happy girl!
